Mahaim the village situated in the state of Maharashtra and which was in the State of Gujrat before that, has a unique place of pride, as per Bombay Gazette, that the fore-fathers of Hazrat Makhdum Ali rehmatullahi alaih, most probably arrived to Mahim. In those days. Mahim was called Mahaim. It was almost non-habitated and desolate land. There were no other inhabitants there except the local fishermen,. Hazrat Makhdum rehmatullahi alaih comes of a Nawait Family. The historians are of the opinion that technically this family (tribe) was of Arab origin and it had migrated to India from Hijaz (In Saudi Arabia). These people came to India and they made the western coastal area of India their abode.
