[edit]The list does not seem to jibe with the list of US cites by density: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population_density (in that there are many US cities that should be included on this list and are not). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.234.42.218 (talk) 00:14, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
Confusion between metropolitan area and city division
[edit]Levallois-Perret totally isn't independent "metropolitan area", it's part of Paris. Same for Neapoli, part of Thessaloniki. If city parts count, then Kwun Tong of Hong Kong would top this list. Or probably some place in Manila. --Sigmundur (talk) 10:30, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
sequence of the listed areas/cities
[edit]The sequence of the areas/cities listed are not in the correct order - if you look at the numbers given for the population density, #7 Delhi should be lower on the list and #48 Karachi should be higher up. I don't have any other other numbers than the ones given in this table and I don't know how to edit (yet). Can someone take care of this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4tunamayo (talk • contribs) 13:23, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Update needed
[edit]I'm afraid I don't have time to do it myself, but in case it's useful, I'm just flagging that this list in need of an update. All the data is at least 10 years old.
Redundant article
[edit]There is an article on the same topic with better content: List of cities proper by population density. Please remove this smaller article/merge 2A00:1FA0:4A4D:6115:0:47:C9DD:EC01 (talk) 12:47, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
Gaza
[edit]gaza should be added. It's 25 x 5 and has 2 million ppl. Which = 21,000 population per square mile. sourcing:

Missing Countries
[edit]There's no place in the US and no place in China that made the top 100? Doesn't sound right. Also I agree with comment above, there's a lot of very small places that perhaps do not count as a city(and larger places that should). Need a good definition of a city. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:184:C400:DCA0:81DA:A9E0:50BB:BA2B (talk) 20:53, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
Malé information substantively revised
[edit]Density of Malé is given as 786,836/km², which must be a mathematical error because 252,768 ÷ 1.96km² = 128,963/km². More recent data gives a population of 212,138, table revised and density figures adjusted to be more realistic ADEps (talk) 23:12, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- 1.96km² is the area of Male island only. But Metropolitan Malé should include Hulhumalé, Vilimalé and Hulhulé. The total area should be 9.27km². With that, population density should be 212,138 ÷ 9.27km² = 22,884/km² Yanbu Guy (talk) 10:31, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
Proposed merge of List of cities proper by population density with List of metropolitan areas by population density
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To not merge, on the basis that the topics are sufficiently different: city proper differing from metropolitan area. There may be scope for either removing some entries from the metropolitan area, on the grounds that they are too small to fit that description, or moving them to cities proper if that is the area described. Topics are too similar and should be merged into a single article ranking both lists. Suggested by dePRODder Terovian (talk · contribs) at the metro list. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 13:59, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Agree. •Shawnqual• 📚 • 💭 00:29, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
Disagree. This list has been showing very small areas since day one. These entries are way too small to be a metropolis. I think it's alright to move most entries to the 'city proper' list. Then it would be interesting to see which metropolises are actually the most dense. KatVanHuis (talk) 14:18, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Minimum size on a metropolitan area
[edit]Following up from the recently closed merge proposal ... It doesn't make for a coherent list to have no minimum size for a metropolitan area (at least when thinking about density). So, I suggest using the recognized distance of 40km as a basis for determining the minimum size of a metropolitan area of a metroprolis (or larger city).[1] Determining the 'minimum area then is a little more difficult, but for a coastal city (roughly hemispherical area) that would be 2513km2. Rounding down (to 1 significant figure), that givens a cutoff of 2000km2. This means that most of the list elements in place are too small, and for other we should base the contents over better measures of the metropolitan area. For example, which the city proper for Mumbai is small, it metropolitan area is signicantly larger (more than 6000km2). Klbrain (talk) 15:25, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
