Merge suggestion
[edit]As the article Shri Vidya seems to be quite specific about being about "Lalitha" and methods of worship thereof, the merge suggestion seems quite reasonable, so I have restored it so it can be discussed. IPSOS (talk) 21:53, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- I do not support the merge. Unfortunately both articles are weak, and do not do much to differentiate the issues. The form of the goddess named Lalitā is a distinct form, and has specific devotional literature such as the Lalita sahasranama that can be studied independently of the Shri Vidya practices. The branch of tantrism known as Shri Vidya, on the other hand, is a philosophical and devotional school involving a variety of things, some of which have little to do with Lalitā per se. Another way of saying this is that Lalitā is a goddess, and Shri Vidya is a ritualized philosophical school. Rather than merging them, each article should be completely rewritten and sourced appropriately. Buddhipriya 09:26, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would also disgree with the merge (thus I moved the tag). This article is a stub, but gives relevant basic information. The Shri Vidya article requires a major clean-up before anything can be done with it and discusses a different concept to that of Lalita specifically. Buddhipriya's points above sound like the best way forward. Gouranga(UK) 09:07, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- An analogy for this is that we have separate articles for Vishnu and Vaishnavism, Shiva and Shaivism, etc. A citation establishing the basic parallel is from Flood (1996) p. 187, who says "The Śrī Vidyā is the cult of Lalitā Tripurasundarī or simply Tripurasundarī ('Beautiful Goddess of the Three Cities'), a tantric form of Śrī/Lakṣmī, ... (etc.)" On a more general note I think that all of the various goddess forms that have distinct cultic traditions or significant mythical accounts should have their own articles, all with a link to the more abstract concept of Devī. I did a makeover of Shri Vidya to remove unsourced material and at least get a few sourced facts in, so please take a look and help clean up whatever errors I have introduced there. Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Lalitha which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 07:50, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
