History== ==Today

[edit]

I can't see where else to insert this comment, so I'll put it here and hope someone can do something with it. The sections about the popularity or otherwise of the rijsttafel in Indonesia under 'History' and 'Today' are contradictory, if only because 'History' includes information about the present day. My feeling after living in Holland for 30 years is that it's definitely a Dutch adaptation and that Indonesians tend to look on it with something approaching scorn. Also, with the rise of other cuisines in Holland - not to mention Holland's new-found 'foodie' culture - Indonesian food in general seems a lot less popular here than it used to be. There's simply far more choice, even in Asian cuisine (Thai, Indian and Persian are increasingly widespread, as well as good Chinese rather than the cheap take-away stuff that passed for Chinese in this country until quite recently). And the sense of connection between Holland and Indonesia is fading now that Indonesia's been independent for over 60 years. Indonesian-derived words for things like spring rolls (loempia) and prawn crackers (kroepoek) have survived in Dutch, but others that were once common are starting to be replaced by translations of English terms, possibly as a result of holidays in Thailand (to take one example, citroengras, from lemon grass, is steadily taking over from the old word sereh).188.203.49.105 (talk) 15:08, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Even within the History section, the text is contradictory. I quote from the last paragraph:

"More of a banquet than a regular meal, the rijsttafel has survived Indonesia's independence, composed as it is of indigenous Indonesian dishes, and is served in some mainstream restaurants in Indonesia."

but only a few sentences earlier, it says:

"Today, the rice table has practically disappeared from Indonesia's restaurants and is served only by a handful of fine-dining restaurants in Indonesia."

Lumpia

[edit]

That picture is not an Indonesian lumpia, which are deep fried, yellow, crusty. This is a steamed spring roll. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.212.116.112 (talk) 20:17, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
