Drug Possession

In September 2010 after a performance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Bruno Mars was caught with 2.6 grams of Cocaine. Arrested after the suspicious toilet attendant alerted security, who found the 26 year old in possession of the drug. On arrest it was told he said to the officer he had never used drugs before, and seen smiling in the police photo for the possession of the stimulant.

Later in January 2012, he appeared in count pleading guilty, but avoiding a stain on his record by completing 200 hours of community service and 8 hours of counselling. [1]

Waikiki has a hospital?

It says he was born in Waikiki, but I don't know of any hospitals in Waikiki. Kapiolani is close, but is still outside the Waikiki boundaries. Does anyone have a source that says where he was actually born? —Preceding unsigned comment added by BillyNair (talkcontribs) 20:01, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I've added a request for a cite to the article. If you doubt the information, feel free to remove it, it is unsourced. (I should point out, though, that nothing says he was born in a hospital.) - SummerPhD (talk) 20:43, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
I've added a source; according to Allmusic, he was born "Peter Hernandez in Waikiki, Hawaii". Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:54, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
The way it is worded now seems more appropriate. --Billy Nair (talk) 19:18, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

It is possible that Bruno's parents were living in Waikiki at the time of his birth. There actually was a hospital in Waikiki (the original Kaiser Hospital next to the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor) but it was torn down in the mid-80s. So, and this is a guess, what the writer may have intended to say was that Bruno was a resident of Waikiki when he was born.

I witnessed when they demolished Kaiser Hospital which was around 1987 - 1988. So I guess he was born in Waikiki. Mamoahina (talk) 21:54, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

However, Waikiki is not in the Roosevelt High School school district so he almost certainly was not living in Waikiki when he was a teenager. (71.22.47.232 (talk) 08:56, 20 September 2010 (UTC))

Filipino or Hawaiian?

I came to this page earlier to see that he was Hawaiian/Puerto Rican. I come back and now it reads Filipino/Puerto Rican. Which one is right?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.253.123 (talk) 02:07, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm having trouble finding a solid reliable source to support it, but most information such as this say he is half Filipino (by way of his mother), half Puerto Rican (through his father). Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 03:01, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

If you put his father's ethnicity first Bruno is Puerto Rican/Filipino. His father, Peter Hernandez Sr., is Puerto Rican. His mother (maiden name Bayat) is Filipina. Bruno's uncle, his mother's brother, is known professionally as John Valentine. Do a google search on John Valentine and you'll find many reliable sources of information. (71.22.47.232 (talk) 08:50, 20 September 2010 (UTC))

Puerto Rican Filipino are nationalities still doesn't find out his ethnic racial backround and personal i don't see how it matters. puerto rican could be anything thing from white black navie mixed etc.... not more different than saying someones half amercian but you wouldn't know it could be anything from white amercian afican amercian asian amercian. I have removed the unsourced birth date of the eighth of October, as no reliable, verifiable source exists for this. Some places says that Bruno Mars was born 1986 and some say 1985?

When was Bruno Mars really born? In some interviews he says some times he he changes his age to 24 and 25? Is the wikipedia is always right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by LovingCaringReading (talkcontribs) 04:55, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for opening another discussion about this, as there does appear to be some confusion. The source cited on the article says he was born "on October 8, 1985". That would place his current age at 25, which seems consistent with most new sources, such as this one which says, as of February 2011, he is 25. I also found a Chicago Tribune article (offline) that placed his age at 25 in February 2011. But there are (less frequent) sources that place his age a year younger, such as this one from May 2011 that seems to say he is age 24. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 17:57, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Bruno Mars was not born in the Philippines, so he should not be called a "Filipino-American" singer-songwriter. He was born in Hawaii. I am going to remove that part as it is misleading. Basilisk4u (talk) 07:55, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

People constantly redefined the -American definitions. So now a Filipino-American is an immigrant? lol Only in the US can people be so fucked up about these ridiculous categories. Mamoahina (talk) 22:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Sad but true, said as and by an American.--Degen Earthfast (talk) 15:14, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Lol, that's because the US has people from all sorts of backgrounds, and minorities generally stick to their own groups (since the trend of assimilation to the majority white population is quite high), which causes this form of "nationalistic"/"racial" or collective identity behavior where people stick to their own groups/identify with their own people. And all Americans or their ancestors (besides Native Americans) are immigrants anyways. - M0rphzone (talk) 09:03, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Should we make a topic on his page that references his band? They have been together in the first tour and in the upcoming tour they will be together again. I believe i can find reliable sources about this topic on the web.

No accent mark in Hernandez

Although in Spanish, Hernandez is spelled with an accent mark, it does not belong in Bruno's real name. Here's why:

1. Other Members of his family don't use it

http://www.facebook.com/pages/E-Panda-Eric-Hernandez/125194514216062?sk=info

https://twitter.com/mrEricHernandez

2. The accent mark is not used on sheet music when he is credited under his real name, and music notes includes accent marks when neccesary.

http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtdVPE.asp?ppn=MN0097132

http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtdVPE.asp?ppn=MN0071566& (this is the exact same diacritic that Hernandez has in Spanish, so the diacritic in Bruno's name is not omitted for technical reasons, it is omitted becauase it is not how he spells his name)

3. When he was credited as Bruno Hernandez in Honeymoon in Vegas, it was not used.

Does he really need a legacy section right now?

I'm just curious because sure he's had a lot of success and what not but shouldn't we wait until he is further in his career and makes more of a cultural impact or something? I don't know, just sayin'.

No, he doesn't. It's repetitive, full of fan cruft and basically silly for an artist who isn't even five years into his commercial career. If we don't get a sensible argument that lays out a reason why it should stay, I'll personally remove it, so whoever created and/or has been editing it needs to say something in its defense. - The Real One Returns (talk) 16:34, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Ethnicity and nationality are two different things. Both of Mars' parents are Americans.-- OBSIDIANSOUL 12:00, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Why the mention that he has some Spanish descent? First of all, Spanish is implied in Filipino. Secondly, if Spanish is to be called out separately, the source points out that Mars' great-great-grandfather was from Spain. That would make Mars 1/16th Spanish, which is not significant, given that again, Spanish is implied in Filipino. (It's not like Mars' mother married a Spaniard, which probably would warrant mentioning) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.184.56.35 (talk) 15:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Yeah I agreed. I mean even the Spanish government wouldn't consider him Spanish from what I understand you need one spanish grandparent, in other words be at least 1/4 to claim Spanish nationality by origin. So the Category "Americans of Spanish descent" really does not apply to him.--Anen87 (talk) 23:49, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

In the second paragraph of the page, the sentence: "He also co-wrote the hits "Right Round" by Flo Rida featuring Ke$ha, and "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan, allowing him..." should read "He also co-wrote the hits "Right Round" by Flo Rida featuring Ke$ha, and the "Wavin' Flag (Coca-Cola Celebration Mix)" by K'naan that was featured prominently during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, allowing..." Throughout K'Naan's catalog there's a clear distinction made of those being different songs, and the writing credits are different as the Celebration Mix is a reworking of the song "Wavin' Flag" that K'Naan wrote for his Troubadour album. He has the sole writing credit for that song.

Honors and Awards disparity

This section states that Bruno sold 115 million records, which isn't plausibly supported in the anchored footnote. There appears to be at a minimum conflation of the term record (which usually means album) with any media sold (singles). This is misleading unless there is verifiable evidence that Bruno Mars has sold this many albums, which is not supported in the discography either. The article starts in the 3rd paragraph stating conflicting information "He has sold 10 million albums during his 3-year singing career and 58 million singles worldwide," so either this information is faulty or the latter is. If someone could reconcile and rectify this it would be appreciated towards improving article quality. Edit Request on 6 June 2014

Didn't really want to have to request this since it's just a grammar issue, but I couldn't fix it myself as I am not yet autoconfirmed: Could someone change the part in the lede which states "Throughout of his singing career. He has won 2 Grammy Awards, and sold more than 11 million albums and 68 million singles worldwide" to "Throughout his singing career, Mars has won 2 Grammy Awards and sold more than 11 million albums and 68 million singles worldwide"? Fixed, thanks for your report. Nil Einne (talk) 19:25, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

"Bruno Mars Act" needs rewritting

The last paragraph of the "Legacy" section needs to be cleaned up. There is no context and there are no dates or years. The tone is informal (not sure if that's a huge issue but I think it should be looked at). If someone can give a second opinion and/or fix it, that would be great. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.35.159.10 (talk) 05:54, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Edit request for 26 November 2014

The paragraph starting with "On January 26, 2014, Mars won the award of Best Pop Vocal Album..." begins with two sentences that are grammatically incorrect, a run-on and a fragment. They should be fixed. In fact, that entire paragraph has an awkward sentence structure. MrChrisMendez (talk) 14:09, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

When talking about Bruno's super bowl performance, the article says that he was announced in September 2014 and performed in February 2014. The September 2014 should be September 2013 99.96.249.96 (talk) 04:22, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
