Swedish born Italian actress?

I don't get this sentese at all "Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg was a Swedish born Italian actress in American and European films." How do you suppose she was Italian? She had Swedish parents so why Swedish born? If she would have had Italian parents and was born in Sweden, the sentence would have made sense, but that's not the case.
