Philipp Blom

Philipp Blom (b.1970) is a journalist, translator, novelist and historian. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, studied in Vienna and Oxford, and as of 2005 resides in Paris. He writes regularly for the Times Literary Supplement and The Daily Telegraph and produces obituaries for The Independent.
His history books include To Have and To Hold (2002), a history of collectors and collecting, and Enlightening the World (2005), a history of the Encyclopedie.
He wrote the short novel The Simmons Papers (1995); an English translation of Geert Mak's Amsterdam (1999); and The Wines of Austria (1999).
