Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Malik bin Hisham (Arabic: أبو محمد عبدالمالك بن هشام), or Ibn Hisham (d. 834) edited the biography of Muhammad written by Ibn Ishaq. Ibn Ishaq's work is lost and is now only known in the recension of Ibn Hisham. Ibn Hisham was born in Egypt, studied in Kufa but lived afterwards in Egypt, where he gained a name as a grammarian and student of language and history. His family was of Himyarite origin and he also wrote a work on South Arabian antiquities, Kitab al-Tijan.
