Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie ve Skutči patří mezi významné gotické stavby regionu, jako farní kostel městského typu je zmíněn v roce 1350 v listině nově vzniklého Biskupství litomyšlského. Písemnost je na českém území nejstarším dokumentem o existenci města Skutče. V roce 1655 byl spolu s farou povýšen na děkanský. Věž kostela poničil v roce 1850 požár vzniklý od blesku při bouřce, zvony se však podařilo zachránit. Gotizující projekt obnovy věže vypracoval Wenzl Koudelka, podle kterého byla obnovena a stala se dominantou města a jeho okolí. Budova kostela je jednolodní, hlavní oltář novogotický s obrazem Nanebevzetí Panny Marie, replikou Brandlova obrazu ve Vysokém Mýtě, z 18. století. Obraz pro kostel objednal děkan Matheides ze Závětic. Po stranách oltáře stojí sochy sv. Petra a sv. Pavla rovněž z 18. století.
