Description

This superbly carved coffin lid depicts a priest wearing a long tight-sleeved garment underneath a cloak with a high collar and long hanging sleeves. His hands are mutilated but are clearly meeting in prayer. His head rests on a square pillow. The face has been badly damaged but around the chin there appears to be a decorative band. The statue was carved in the 13th century and would have formed the horizontal cover for a stone coffin.
