DescriptionPortland Steel Bridge with lift span raised - viewed from west.jpg
The raised vertical-lift span of the 1912-built Steel Bridge, in Portland, Oregon, viewed from the west bank of the Willamette River, on the northwest side of the bridge (looking east-southeast). In this photo, the lower deck has been telescoped into the upper deck, and the combined decks have been raised about 80% of the maximum height to which they can be raised above the upper deck. In the foreground, a few Canadian Geese are resting on a private boat dock. The viaducts in the background are part of the interchange between Interstate-5 and Interstate-84.
