English: West front of the Old Hall, East Bergholt, Suffolk. This part of a the building is the house of one of four manors in East Bergholt, rebuilt in 1713. From 1857 the house was enlarged to form St Mary's Abbey for a community of Benedictine Nuns. From 1940 the Army occupied and used the buildings. After the war a community of Franciscan Friars lived in it until 1974. Since then it has accommodated a co-ownership housing association of about 42 members plus dependants, who maintain the house and garden and farm about 68 acres of fields from the former estate. This is private land. http://oldhall.org.uk
