Summary

Description
中文(简体):石虎,成都金沙遗址出土。
English: Stone tiger (石虎) in the Jinsha archaeological museum, Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Unearthed in the sacrificial area of the Jinsha site. The people of ancient Shu seem to have worshipped tigers or used them as representations of aspects of the divine. Carved from serpentine-peridolite, using white spots and veins to mimic the tiger's own stripes. The mouth, ears, and parts of the head were originally painted with bright vermilion.

A similar pose was later used in the Han Dynasty as the starting point for sculptures of guard dogs.
