| Description |
English: On 6 December 1848 the Lady Kennaway arrived in Hobson's Bay with 191 Orphan girls from Ireland - a result of the famine. They were absorbed into the colony of Victoria as domestic servants most of whom later married settlers.
The Inscription reads as follows: In memory of one million people who died in Ireland during the Great Hunger of 1845–1852. In praise of the courage of tens of thousands of dispossessed Irish who sailed to Hobson's Bay to build a new life. In sorrow for the dispossession of the Bunurong and Woiworong people but in a spirit of reconciliation. In solidarity with all those who suffer hunger today. |
