En las actas de juicio de capitanes como Javier de Mendoza y otros que se unieron a la causa del monarca José I Túpac Amaru Inca se señala que se les encontró banderas de color carmín, carmesí o rojo. Esta bandera fue empleada desde el Virreinato de Nueva Granada por el norte hasta la gobernación de Charcas y Potosí por el sur.
