DescriptionBancroft Mill, economiser and engine - geograph.org.uk - 1627652.jpg
English: Bancroft Mill, economiser and engine In the background is the economiser. This heats the feedwater for the boiler by passing it in tubes in the flow of hot flue gases. To keep the tubes free of soot there is a scraper gear that is now driven by the steam engine on the right. This is not original but has been set up to show how this was often done. The scrapers could variously be driven also by motor or by lineshafting from the main engine. I'm not sure how it was done at Bancroft.
