It is believed that this image complies with fair use policy, as:

1. The image illustrates the absurdist nature of the film—specifically the dead butterflies as set dressing and the boiling rice fetishism explained in the accompanying captions—which led to the director's dismissal from Nikkatsu. It also illustrates the director's style, specifically the monochrome design and spotlight use discussed elsewhere in the Branded to Kill article.
2. It is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality).
3. It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell or market the work in any way.
4. It is solely being used for informational purposes.
