Summary

Description
English: Alma Mansion is not a mansion in proportions, roughly the size of a pub. It is at the junction on Brent Street and Brent Green. This appears to be the entrance of the Alma White Centre. The following information is taken from the Barnet Council website at http://www.barnet.gov.uk/index/leisure-culture/libraries/archives/archives-histories/archives-hendonhistories/archives-hendon-brentgreen.htm : -

"...a small gothic complex called the Alma White Centre.

In 1893 the Rev W H Seddon, Hon Secretary of the Church Army, purchased a house called Fosters, in Brent Street with the intention of building 'a Rescue Home (for fallen women), with a Chapel attached'.

The site became St Saviour's Homes, for "feeble minded" women in 1897. In 1926 it was taken over by the Pillar of Fire Society, as a bible college, school and chapel."

Further investigation shows that No.19 Brent Street is the home of the Alma White Pre-School and that the Pillar of Fire Society has a chapel in the same complex of buildings a little further down the hill.
