Fangs is a slice of life romantic comedy horror comic series written and drawn by Sarah Andersen, following the "quirky" love story between 300-year-old vampire Elsie and 20-something werewolf Jimmy. Originally published as a webcomic on Tapas for its first 77 episodes from October 31, 2019 to July 2, 2020, a hardcover graphic novel of Fangs was published on September 1, 2020 compiling the first 77 and the final 25 episodes, concluding the series with a total of 102 episodes.[3]
Written in a six-month period while Andersen was working on re-illustrating the Andy Weir webcomic Cheshire Crossing,[4] Fangs received a universally positive critical reception, winning the 2021 Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication.[5]
Plot
[edit]Fangs is what happens when instead of being rivals, romance blossoms between vampires and werewolves. A slice-of-life comic story that follows Elsie, a 300 year-old vampire in a 26 year-old body, and Jimmy, a werewolf since childhood with a wry sense of humor and a fondness for running wild during the full moon. When Jimmy and Elsie meet at a bar one night, they instantly hit it off, partially because they're both monsters. As the pair get to know each other, they discover ways of being together, enjoying horror films and scary novels, shady strolls, fine dining (though never with garlic), and a genuine fondness for each other's unusual habits, macabre lifestyles, and monstrous appetites, and, through a series of hilarious moments and mishaps, falling in love.[6][7][8]
First featured as a webcomic series on Tapas, Fangs chronicles the humor, sweetness, and awkwardness of meeting someone perfectly suited to you but also vastly different. Fangs combines slice-of-life romance concerning a burgeoning relationship with horror tropes to provide a breezy, funny comic that is presented in atmospheric black and white.[9]

Critical reception
[edit]Fangs received a universally positive critical reception.
