Bionews, Inc., is a digital health media company that creates communities for patients and caregivers affected by rare and chronic diseases. It is headquartered in Pensacola, Florida.
History
[edit]Bionews, Inc., was founded in 2013 as BioNews Services LLC to address the information gap often experienced by patients and caregivers with rare disease.
Pulmonary Hypertension News was the first site launched in April 2014, followed by Multiple Sclerosis News Today, Cystic Fibrosis News Today, SMA News Today, and Friedreich's Ataxia News.
In 2022, the company incorporated and became known as Bionews, Inc.
Mission
[edit]As of 2025, BioNews operates 47 disease-specific platforms, focusing primarily on rare diseases but also including some chronic conditions such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.
The company's mission is to connect rare disease communities by providing a space to educate and engage with those affected by rare diseases. In addition, the company employs members of its patient communities, with more than 50% of its employees and contractors affected by a rare or chronic disease.[1]
Business model
[edit]Bionews serves patient and caregiver audiences by covering the latest developments in medical research and clinical trials, alongside first-hand perspectives by patients and caregivers. It also hosts a number of forums where community members can connect.
The company also partners with patient advocacy organizations and medical entities such as the Mayo Clinic PaSAGE Study Team[2] and the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America[3] on a variety of initiatives aimed at patient education and clinical trial recruitment. Its disease sites are featured on several nonprofit entities' lists of resources.[4]
Bionews introduced a variety of new initiatives in 2024, including an immersive product showcasing the patient journey.[5]
