Athens Spartans RFC is a Greek rugby club in Athens. The club is the oldest in Greece.
History
The club was founded in 1982. Being the only rugby club in Greece at the time, they played most of their early matches against visiting naval ships.
Present
Multiple youth Spartans have played in semipro level all over the world. Some of those Spartans include Argyris Saliarelis (Brigwater & Albion footbal club) Panagiotis Marmaras (Montreal Wanderers RFC) Stephanos Stephanou (Essex University). Due to the lack of commitment by the union, players and coaches the team has struggled to make a strong presence in the Greek league. Although the Spartans season stats aren't great, many players have been a constant selection for the Greek National Team that includes Antonis Dermetzis, Giannhs Ktitsakis and Christos Sofianidhs.
