Annalisa in Rome in 2012

In 2011 Annalisa took part at the 10th edition of the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi where she finished second and also received the critics' prize. In March 2011 her first album Nali was released; it reached number 2 in the official Italian album chart by FIMI,[16] and was certified platinum.[17] Her first single "Diamante lei e luce lui", which in 2012 reached the ninth position in the official Italian single chart,[18] was certified gold.[19] In addition this single won the Premio Videoclip Italiano 2011. Her second single "Giorno per giorno" was released on 27 May 2011.

"Senza riserva", from the second album Mentre tutto cambia, was released on 16 March 2012 and later certified platinum.[20][9] The second single of her second album was "Tra due minuti è primavera". The last single from Mentre tutto cambia was "Per una notte o per sempre".[20] At the end of the same year Annalisa sang "Pirati", which featured in the Italian version of the film Ice Age: Continental Drift.

Annalisa participated at the Sanremo Music Festival 2013 and finished ninth, with the single "Scintille".[4] At the same time, her third album Non so ballare was released and reached the sixth position in the official Italian album chart.[citation needed] Also during 2013, Annalisa represented Italy at the OGAE Song Contest with the song "Alice e il blu", the second single from the album Non so ballare, and finished third.[21] At the same time, she had two nominations for Best Female Artist and Best Video with the song "Alice e il blu" at World Music Awards.[22] She subsequently represented Italy at the International Song Contest: The Global Sound with "Scintille", and in November won the competition.[23] The third single from Non so ballare was "A modo mio amo" and its videoclip was a collage of the previous ones.

In December 2013 Roberto Casalino, the author of many Annalisa's songs, announced that "Tutto sommato" from the second studio album Mentre tutto cambia, featured on the soundtrack of the Dutch film Toscaanse Bruiloft.[24][25] In January 2014 the album was released in the Netherlands and "Tutto sommato" featured as a single.[26][27] For these reasons, in January 2014 the singer was sent for the first time abroad to promote the film and her first album published abroad.[28] The film also contains the two bonus tracks of the digital version of the Dutch iTunes album, the song "Non so ballare" and the unreleased song, "Capirai".[29]

On 26 August 2022, Annalisa announced through an interview with Vanity Fair Italia that her new single "Bellissima" would be released on 2 September 2022, before receiving its live debut at the Verona Arena on 7 September. The song was written in August 2021 and Annalisa described it as her 'first step into a new world', with its message of dancing to let go of paranoia and disappointment being the 'perfect musical representation of her as a person'. Musically, the song draws on a range of influences from Patty Pravo and Mina to Nada and Dua Lipa.[58] The song reached number 7 on the Italian singles chart, becoming the first single by a woman to remain on the chart for over a year since the establishment of the FIMI chart in 2009.[59] The track was also certified quintuple platinum in Italy, for sales exceeding 500,000 copies, making it her joint highest-selling song in the territory.[9] It achieved viral success on TikTok becoming the second most used song on the app in 2023, with over 660,000 videos shared.[60][61] A dance routine choreographed by Joey di Stefano became a popular trend on the app receiving millions of views and was featured alongside Annalisa's performance of "Bellissima" at the Sanremo Music Festival in February 2023.[62] Alongside her appearance at the Sanremo Music Festival, Annalisa announced her first concert at Mediolanum Forum, which took place on 4 November 2023.[63]

On 31 March 2023, Annalisa released the single "Mon amour". Annalisa described the song as the next chapter of the story that started with "Bellissima", focusing on 'the state of limbo that comes after the disappointment of a failed relationship and before the readiness to start over and move on'. "Mon amour" explores the 'recklessness' of this limbo, with the 'crazy idea of revenge that makes you feel powerful again, even if only for an instant'.[64] The single's music video depicts Annalisa with a new haircut and style, which Annalisa described as emblematic of periods of change, representing 'a break from self-reflection and the adoption of an alter-ego'.[65] The song was certified five times platinum in Italy, for sales exceeding 500,000 copies.[9] It topped both the Italian airplay chart and the FIMI singles chart, becoming her first number one single and making her the first Italian solo female artist to top the chart since 2020.[66][67] The single saw continued success throughout 2023, remaining in the top ten of the Italian singles chart for 20 weeks and becoming the seventh biggest selling song of the year in Italy, the highest by a woman soloist.[68] Furthermore, Spotify named it the eighth most streamed song of the summer in Italy on the platform.[69] At RTL's Power Hits Estate 2023, "Mon amour" was awarded the SIAE prize for the most performed song of the summer at Italian musical events.[70] The song achieved viral success on TikTok, featuring in over 700,000 videos in 2023 and becoming the most used song of the year in Italy on the app.[61]

On 4 September 2023, Annalisa announced the album's third single, "Ragazza sola", would be released on 8 September 2023. Annalisa described the song as the third chapter of the narrative explored in the previous two singles, summarising the song's lyrical content as "that moment in which you begin to embrace change", "the images flow in the mind like in a vortex, one after the other, disorderly, fast". She highlighted "Ragazza sola" as the resolution of this disorder, with the vortex having led her to a place of self-discovery in which she no longer felt alone.[75] The track debuted at number 24 on the Italian singles chart, later peaking at number 21, and went on to top the Italian airplay chart for three weeks.[76] It was certified platinum in Italy for sales exceeding 100,000 copies.[9]

The cover of "Christmas" was also featured in the Amazon original film Elf Me, which released digitally on 24 November.[81] A music video for the song was filmed in Amazon's Lightstudio and was released on 28 November 2023.[82] The song peaked at number 10 on the Italian singles chart.[18]

Annalisa competed in the Sanremo Music Festival 2024 with the song "Sinceramente", finishing in third place.[83][84] The song peaked at number two on the Italian singles chart and was certified quadruple platinum for sales exceeding 400,000 copies.[9][18] On 24 May 2024, she was featured on the Tedua track "Beatrice", which debuted atop the Italian singles chart, becoming her second number one single.[85][18] On 5 June 2024, she released the single "Storie brevi" with Tananai, which was digitally added to E poi siamo finiti nel vortice.[86] The song peaked at number 2 on the Italian singles chart and was certified double platinum for sales in excess of 200,000 copies.[9][18]
