File:Philippines Map World Factbook.gif and other images
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Philippines Map World Factbook.gif and for tagging it correctly as a public domain work of the federal government. I wanted to let you know — images like this really don't belong on Wikipedia. This isn't because they're problematic, but because there's a better place: the Wikimedia Commons, commons.wikimedia.org. Images at the Commons can be used here just as if they were uploaded here, but (unlike images uploaded here) they can be used by people from other Wikipedias and related websites as well. For that reason, I've moved the map over there, but since it has the same name, it probably won't have any effect that you will notice. Nyttend (talk) 02:34, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
License tagging for File:USS Albany Bluejackets on parade in San Francisco, Oct. 19, 1909.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:USS Albany Bluejackets on parade in San Francisco, Oct. 19, 1909.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 08:05, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hello my friend. I felt it proper to reduce the content of the battle in the article Puerto Rico Campaign. I moved your superb work of the Battle to its own page Battle of Fajardo. I didn't want to change anything that you've written. In regard to the section of the battle in the article Puerto Rico Campaign, please feel free to correct the fact that 28 men and officers who held the Fajardo lighthouse and repelled the Spanish attack were US Navy sailors from the USS Amphitrite and not US Marines. [edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Allen B. Reed, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Please avoid using primary sources, because they don't establish what is or is not notable about a subject and are open to interpretation and cross-referencing in ways that need to be left to trained historians. Speedy deletion nomination of File:USS Saratoga (ACR-2) at Shanghai in 1913 with Hugo Koehler and Henry Wiley 2.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:USS Saratoga (ACR-2) at Shanghai in 1913 with Hugo Koehler and Henry Wiley 2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copyright problem on USS Bear (1874)
[edit]In the future, please add attribution when copying from public domain sources: simply add the template {{PD-notice}}
after your citation. I have done so for the above article. Please do this in the future so that our readers will be aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:06, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Orphaned non-free image File:LCDR William S. Cronan.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:LCDR William S. Cronan.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:41, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:James Garner receives the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:James Garner receives the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 17:09, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
File source problem with File:LCDR Hugo W. Koehler.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:LCDR Hugo W. Koehler.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 11:16, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Your recent editing history at USS Winslow (DD-359) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

- I have reported you on the tearoom page. You deleted the NARA OPF record that I uploaded reflecting Commander Chambers was the original commanding officer of this ship. When I have time, I will upload a postal cover for the shakedown cruise the ship did to Europe with his name on it. Barnabywoods (talk) 22:01, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
