Original –. The image is based on the solitary Mariana from William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, written between 1601 and 1606. In the play, Mariana was to be married, but was rejected when her dowry was lost in a shipwreck by Angelo.
Reason
Google file, used, big enough. A "bed trick" is involved in Shakespeare’s plot. Angelo, who has previously refused to fulfill the betrothal binding him to Mariana, because her dowry had been lost at sea, will be soon framed.
