⭠ Last week's report

All your dreams are made
when you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade
Today's the day that all the world will see...

1 Oasis (band) 1,428,910 Mancunian brothers Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher (plus other musicians that weren't as fond of squabbling) spent the 90s and 2000s making music and fighting each other, and the latter part escalated so much in 2009 that the brothers broke up their band. So what a relief for fans that in the 30th anniversary of the Oasis debut album Definitely Maybe a 2025 reunion tour was announced, initially in the British Isles but with hopes that will expand to other parts of the world, specially as tickets sold out fairly quickly. The rest of Oasis will include three other past members, guitarists Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (who made the band's beloved first two albums and the divisive and overblown third) and Gem Archer (who joined in the tour for the fourth album and remained until the end) and drummer Chris Sharrock (part of the band's doomed final tour), plus other members of Noel's band High Flying Birds.
2 Johnny Gaudreau 1,067,759 "Johnny Hockey" was one standout name in the NHL, but sadly his career was cut short at just 31 as he and his brother (who also played hockey) were run over while riding their bikes in New Jersey. An outpour of commotion emerged, including from Gaudreau's current and former teams, not helped by how Gaudreau left behind two young children and how the deaths forced their sister to cancel her wedding. Everyone also hopes the drunk driver who caused the accident faces the consequences.
3 Deaths in 2024 1,004,696 You need more time
'Cause your thoughts and words won't last forever more
And I'm not sure if it'll ever work out right...
4 Stree 2 1,002,390 This Bollywood comedy horror film, fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe and a sequel to first installment released on the Indian independence day has become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024 and the ninth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. It is also the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 behind a Tollywood epic science fiction (#15).
5 Deadpool & Wolverine 959,740 The 34th film in the MCU, bridging MCU with the Fox Universe and the first ever MCU film with an R-rating was released a months ago and has now become the 7th highest grossing film in the MCU surpassing Iron Man 3.
6 Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 859,701

Yeah, he's still here. Kennedy hasn't fully dropped out of the presidential race. He's only withdrawing his name from most swing states, making sure that he won't affect the electoral vote, but still can be voted for in most states.

As of writing, his website says that Kennedy is aiming for 5% or more of the popular vote, as that will qualify him for public funding in future elections. It also spells Tim Walz's name as "Waltz".

7 Pavel Durov 857,832

Anti-establishment, Russian, and a billionaire, Durov is the founder of VK, "Facebook for Russia", and the 5th most used messaging service, Telegram, supposedly privacy focused. For the latter, he was arrested on August 24, in France, for failure to moderate drug trafficking and child sexual abuse material on the platform. Russia is not happy.

For years, Telegram has had issues with scams, extremist and illegal content, and government propaganda. These issues were only exacerbated with Durov's reluctance to deal with them, as a staunch supporter of Internet freedom.

8 Sven-Göran Eriksson 817,262 A Swedish football coach probably best known for managing England's Golden Generation in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, but who also won club titles coaching S.L. Benfica and S.S. Lazio, Sven-Göran Eriksson died at 76 of pancreatic cancer.
9 Tulsi Gabbard 746,047 Just like RFK Jr., another former Democratic Presidential hopeful turned right-leaning Independent who is now working with Trump.
10 Liam Gallagher 731,595 The lead singer of #1 spent 5 more years with Oasis's other musicians in Beady Eye before a solo career, that earlier this year included a collaboration with Stone Roses guitarist John Squire in the indicatively titled Liam Gallagher & John Squire.
11 Kamala Harris 725,703 #1 on last week's report when the DNC convention happened. Not much more to say. If you don't know who she is already, she is the current American Vice-President and the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2024 United States presidential election after President Biden dropped out on July 21st.
12 Indian Airlines Flight 814 686,521 Netflix's Indian arm added to its catalogue IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, a miniseries on how in the leadup to the millennium celebrations 25 years ago five Pakistani jihadists from Harkat-ul-Mujahideen hijacked this plane hoping to use it in attacks during the New Year. It remained under their control for a week, mostly grounded in Afghanistan, then ruled by the Taliban (who would be taken out after a much more infamous plane hijacking plot), and it ended on New Year's Eve as India agreed to agreed to release three terrorists in exchange for the hostages.
13 Noel Gallagher 679,226 The lead guitarist and composer for #1 followed the acrimonious end of the band with the fairly successful project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, whose musicians (aside from a returning Bonehead) will now be the ones behind the Gallaghers in the Oasis reunion.
14 Alien: Romulus 675,138 The seventh installment in the Alien franchise (ninth counting the Alien vs. Predator movies), released last month, has just surpassed predecessor Alien: Covenant as the second highest-grossing film in the series (who knows if it can get the extra $150 million to reach Prometheus?). A prequel comic book, bridging the events of first film with Romulus is scheduled to be published by Marvel Comics in October 2024.
15 Kalki 2898 AD 603,925 This Tollywood epic science fiction film released two months ago and so far the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 and the seventh highest-grossing Indian film of all time had its OTT release last week on Prime Video.
16 2024–25 UEFA Champions League 589,558 The top tournament for European football will start, and this year the group stage will be replaced with a league one where the designated games are picked from a complex system originated from chess. At least the knockouts to determine who'll got to the final at Munich's Allianz Arena won't change.
17 WWE Bash in Berlin 572,280 WWE held its first event in Germany, more specifically at Berlin's Uber Arena, and event was headlined by a wrestler from a nearby country, the Austrian Gunther.
18 Sid Eudy 506,516 Still on wrestling, this guy, who had his most productive phase between joining World Championship Wrestling in 1989 and a leg injury on the ring in 2001, died at 63 of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
19 Black Myth: Wukong 501,775 Chinese developer Game Science released this action role-playing game based on Journey to the West and following a character based on Sun Wukong the Monkey King, that has already sold millions of copies and reached 3 million concurrent players across all platforms (on Steam in particular it ranked as the second most played game, behind only PUBG and later Counter-Strike 2).
20 Longlegs 495,728 With his country finally receiving in theaters this thriller about an FBI agent seeking an occultist serial killer, this here writer agrees it's a gripping experience, even if it could use more of a Nicolas Cage covered in weird make-up. North Americans can check on video on demand the project that is the highest-grossing independent movie of the year, earning $102.5 million, costing less than a tenth of that.
21 All In (2024) 481,731 Another wrestling event, organized by All Elite Wrestling and held in London's Wembley Stadium. One of the championship matches was won by the woman to the left, Mercedes Moné.

23 Sabrina Carpenter 445,705 This 25-year-old American singer released her sixth studio album last week. With the two preceding singles having topped various charts, the album opened to generally positive reviews from music critics. It is set to be followed by her fifth concert tour and first arena tour later this month.
24 Toby Keith 431,571 NBC aired Toby Keith: American Icon, a special where various country musicians paid tribute to the singer who died last February.
25 Blink Twice 427,695 Keeping off the 2024 Summer Paralympics is a thriller marking the directorial debut of Zoe Kravitz, where Naomi Ackie plays a woman who goes to a party in an island owned by a billionaire (played by Kravitz's fiancé Channing Tatum), and it turns out the rich folks do very unsavory things to women. Blink Twice got good reviews and by opening at fourth in the box office (behind #5, #14 and It Ends with Us) was the best debut of the weekend, while also being close to recouping its $20 million budget.
