Oxford 'Central'

Hi, re this edit: it's not Oxford Central, and never was. Those of us who use it often (see m:Meetup/Oxford/46) know that it's far from central - in fact, the station site way out to the west of the city was chosen because the University wouldn't allow it to be built any closer (Cambridge railway station is out east for the same reason). When necessary to distinguish it from other stations (i.e. Oxford Rewley Road) it was known as Oxford General - it was an ex-GWR station, and "General" was the distinguishing suffix normally used by the GWR (vide Reading General, Banbury General, Wrexham General, Chester General, etc.) The suffix "Central" was typically used for former Great Central Railway stations, and rarely indicated either a central location or the most important station in a town. --Redrose64 (talk) 00:10, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Redrose64, yes, I know, I've been there. I wanted to disambiguate from 'Parkway', as it was only an edit note I decided that convenience trumped precision. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 15:22, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
