Wikipedia's bias against Indigenous people has been on display in several recent discussions. While I understand that Wikipedia is a tertiary source and it does not lead the world in cultural change (activism) to outright deny Indigenous people the dignity they deserve by reducing their identity to that of rocks and plants and then openly mock us by using the rationale that we should not be favored over "colonial" and "religious" people knowing the history of Indigenous people, worldwide, at the hands of colonial and religious powers is shameful and degrading. I will call it as it is and I will not assume good faith on the part of anyone that uses this as a rationale. You know what you are doing to be so specific and you know the affect it will have. We capitalize other ethnicities and races but we do not capitalize Indigenous on Wikipedia because of the engrained racial bias against Indigenous people that is pervasive and sinister in it's purpose to classify Indigenous people as irrelevant where they can not be assimilated. Our voices must be eradicated and silenced where we can not be assimilated. This is nothing more than continuation of "Kill the Indian, not the man" but kill the man if he doesn't comply. We do not have to look far to find examples of this persistent bias whether it's the residential schools of the the 1900's or a recent school policy saying a young Native American had to cut his hair short or face punishment. Or even on our beloved Wikipedia where we are described as demanding favoritism over "colonial" and "religious" people for voicing a "personal preference" when it was shown that in most modern style guides Indigenous is capitalized along with other races of people. No, the same respect is not afforded Indigenous people and our contributions are not wanted as members of this community.

The Wild Rose was a special flower to the ancestors, especially after the Removal. It was a symbol of hope for a new nation rebuilt. It was also a reminder of all they had left behind and those lost on the way.
