An infobox for species use in forest restoration

General considerations

[edit]
  • All data in this infobox should be substantiated with text entries and citations unter the section Use in forest restoration.
  • Much information will be too variable across sites to include as a single value in the infobox. This variability should be described in the main text. Only generally applicable data (as far as is known) should be included in the infobox.
  • Subsections of section Use in forest restoration:
    • Collection
      • Fruiting information (wet season, dry season), collection from tree or from ground, etc.
    • Nursery
      • Germination notes (fruit removal, soak in hot water, cold water, in fridge, scarify, store...). Cutting notes. Wilding notes (pruning needs). Potting notes (medium, watering, fertilizer needed or not to achieve optimal planting size). Diseases.
    • Post-nursery
      • Sun-hardening needs (in general 4-6 weeks), fertilizer response. Diseases.
    • Seedling photos

Data fields

[edit]
Fieldname Data type Permitted values Description
General
habitat comma-separated list swamp, alluvial, hill, montane The general forest habitat
framework boolean yes OR no Is this species a good choice as a framework species?
succclass text pioneer OR climax To the extent possible and acknowledging the wide range of mixed life-history strategies, classify as an early successional, shade intolerant pioneer or a late successional shade tolerant climax species.
Collection
seedease text low OR medium or high How easy is it to acquire seeds?
wildingease text low OR medium or high How easy is it to acquire wildings? In what standing numbers do they occur under parent trees?
Nursery
seedtreatment free text < 100 chars Special treatment of seeds
dormanttime integer Median dormancy time, in months
germrate text low OR medium OR high Expected level of seeds germinating after one year. General guide: low = 0-40 %, medium = 40-80 %, high = 80-100 %
cuttings boolean yes OR no Can the plant be easily propagated from cuttings?
hormone boolean yes OR no Does the use of rooting hormone give a significant increase in rooting success?
wildingsurv text low OR medium OR high What is the general level of survival of wildings during first year of nursery life? General guide: low = 0-40 %, medium = 40-80 %, high = 80-100 %
oneyearheight integer The height in cm, to the nearest 10 cm, of seedlings started from seed, or from small seedlings, after one year.
mintnt integer Minimum total nursery time, in months
Post-Nursery
suntolerant boolean yes OR no In general, does the species do well planted into full sun (little sunburn, etc.)
twoyearsurv text low OR medium OR high The survival after two years planted in open sun, on mid to poor soils. General guide: low = 0-40 %, medium = 40-80 %, high = 80-100 %
twoyearrgr integer The % height increase, relative to the starting height, after two years planted in open sun, on mid to poor soils, to the nearest 10 %. (RGR = (hgtt1 - hgtt0) / hgtt0 x 100
shadecasting text dense OR light When well developed, does the sapling case a dense or light shade?
agefirstfruit integer The age in years, to the nearest year of first fruiting after planting in open sun, on mid to poor soils
