THE CRASH OF FLIGHT 521

[edit]

I WAS AN EYE WITNESS TO THE CRASH. I WAS STANDING AT THE WINDOW, ON A COFFEE BREAK AS A EVENING STUDENT AT THE ACADEMY OF AERONAUTICS, FLUSHING,QUEENS, NY. A FEW STUDENTS AND I WATCHED THE PLANE TAKING OFF AND REALIZED IT WAS NOT GAINING SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE AND WE TRULY BELIEVED IT WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT IT STRUCK THE TELEPHONE WIRES AND BURST INTO FLAMES IN MID-AIR. STUDENTS (MAJORITY OF THEM WORLD WAR II AIR FORCE VETERANS) RAN OUTSIDE WIELDING LARGE WHEELED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, BUT THE HEAT WAS TOO GREAT AND WE COULD NOT APPROACH THE BURNING PLANE. THE PASSENGERS WERE SCREAMING AND BANGING ON THE FUSELAGE WALLS TRYING TO ESCAPE. WE LATER CARRIED THE DEAD BODIES INTO OUR CAFETERIA AND LAID THEM ON THE TABLES. IT WAS A HORRIBLE OCCURENCE AND I WAS PROBABLY THE YOUNGEST STUDENT THERE AS A RECENT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE. THE NEXT DAY WAS MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY. I HAVE TWO PHOTOS OF THE WRECKAGE IF YOU WISH TO SEE THEM. IWAS 18 YO THEN.
