Do not merge articles of SRL state park with historic site

[edit]

The 25-acre Split Rock Lighthouse Historic Site is a separate entity from the 2200-acre Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Although located within the statutory boundaries of the state park, the historic site is administered separately by the Minnesota Historical Society as part of the Minnesota State Historic Sites Network. The light station is on the National Register of Historic Places (1969) and is currently under nomination as a National Historic Landmark (2009). Visitor entry fees and use patterns are separate and distinct between the historic site and the state park. The site's focus is on preservation and interpretation of a cultural resource while the surrounding state park has a focus on the natural resource and on recreation. They should not be joined on this site as the scope and focus for each, and the information available for each, is much different. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Radster3 (talkcontribs) 17:55, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for not merging

[edit]

My major reasoning for not merging them is they are two separate things. Yes the light house is in Split Rock State Park. However the light house is a separate item within the state park. This would merit the light house to have its own page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.134.39.35 (talk) 19:47, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What's the copywrite status of the images on this page? It's obvious they were taken from the photo album site in the External links section.--Daveswagon 3 July 2005 05:26 (UTC)

This article needs some help. I've given it a go, but maybe you have some wisdom and art to add. Thanks. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 04:57, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Stan[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

There's a merger proposal, to absorb Split Rock Lighthouse State Park into this article about the lighthouse. The infobox at the Park article states the park is 2,200 acres in area, which is almost 4 square miles. So the park is much more than the lighthouse. I think both articles are needed, leaving room to expand the park article without disinteresting those readers browsing among lighthouses. The park article can briefly cover the lighthouse with a "Main" article connection to this article, and go into more detail on the trails and whatever. So i guess i OPPOSE the merger. doncram (talk) 14:59, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There being no consensus for merging these articles, I'll remove the tag. Jonathunder (talk) 19:52, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

I suggest renaming this article Split Rock Lighthouse. In all my research while expanding the state park article, I never saw the station referred to with the truncated Split Rock Light. The more natural and common name seems to be Split Rock Lighthouse.McGhiever (talk) 17:16, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From the first edit, it appears it has been called "Split Rock Lighthouse" in this article, which is a strong indication of what the title should be. Jonathunder (talk) 21:08, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Microsoft's lock screen photo of the day mentions 1924...

[edit]

First, I know absolutely nothing about this place. Not only have I never heard of it but I've never even been to Minnesota. I'm not planning to either. I just know that when I went to log onto my computer this morning Microsoft's lock screen image showed a picture of this lighthouse and for the link to their page, it said "This lighthouse was only accessible by boat until 1924." Then the link took me here. I only mention this because you may wish to include this in the article (that it was so stunning Microsoft selected it) and could be used as a reference. Except, the caption of the photo at the link fails to mention the 1924 road thing. Surely there is a list of the images along with what it said in the link somewhere. This is just a FYI and I don't know if any of you even want to add it. It's up to you all. MagnoliaSouth (talk) 14:06, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
