Pointing Stance

[edit]

I am removing the references to "pointing stance". Pointing dogs do not usually assume and particular stance when pointing a bird as they do in a cartoon. Dogs freeze at the moment they hit body-scent in what ever position they happen to be in. This may be with a leg raised or not. They are popularly depicted with a front leg raised as it is particularly impressive when the dog freezes in mid-stride and makes a better picture, but it is not the way that it always happens. Many trainers today encourage pointers to raise their tail vertically inorder to see them more easily, while trainers of an earlier era liked to see tails stick straight back as they do in Bugs Bunny cartoons.--Counsel 16:00, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The link to "Pointer (English)" leads to the article about data pointers.

Huge Cleanup

[edit]

OKay so I cleaned up this page a lot, added some more information, pictures, etc. But I do not understand the difference between this page and the Pointer (dog breed) page?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omniii (talkcontribs) 05:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HPR

[edit]

Some clarification should be made regarding HPR (hunt, point retrieve) as there are only seven officially recognised HPR breeds those being the German Shorthaired Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer, German Longhaired Pointer, Weimaraner, Large Munsterlander, Hungarian Vizsla and the Italian Spinone. --Timetrial (talk) 02:02, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
