I wonder about the list in this section, Rape of males#Long-term effects. It doesn't seem to distinguish between victims of female abusers, and male abusers. I would assume some on the list, especially 8 (homophobia) but likely also 7 "Fear of becoming 'homosexual' or 'gay'." and 2 "Confusion over gender and sexual identity." are not significant risks for those who are victims of only female abuser/s. The source doesn't seem to offer any info on this, I was originally wondering what on earth Living Well was as the name sounded a bit questionable but it seems to be a support website for victims so maybe isn't quite so bad but still I feel a better source would be ideal. HypeBoy, before we get into an edit war, let's discuss your removal as I disagree with it. Firstly I'll mention that the content you removed was not adequately sourced, so I've added a source now.
Homosexuality and masculinity is one of the most important factors regarding rape and domestic violence committed against men. Many of them will not seek help because they do not want to be viewed as gay, even if they aren't. That's not Wikipedia being demeaning -- that's reporting what people's experiences are. It certainly may be a demeaning viewpoint for an individual to have, but it's not demeaning for an encyclopaedia to report it. Let's try not to push an ideology here.
Also, let's not create conflicts. To respond to "A random straight editor who has never lived in gay people's shoes?" I am gay and have had that on my user page for a long time. Let's not jump to conclusions. ―Panamitsu(talk)11:15, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The female on male rape section mentions Cierra Ross, a woman who was arrested for allegedly forcing a man to have sex with her friend at gunpoint. The problematic sentence reads as follows: "The case of Cierra Ross' sexual assault of a man in Chicago[22] gained national headlines, and Ross was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and armed robbery with a bail set at $75,000." The cited source, however, says nothing about a conviction; rather, it states that Ross was arrested and was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. A Google search did not reveal any updates on the Ross case. I would propose that the sentence be revised as follows: "The case of Cierra Ross's alleged sexual assault of a man in Chicago[22] gained national headlines in 2013". 172.100.117.24 (talk) 21:50, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
