Deported for failure to register?
[edit]The article presently states that "Spanknöbel was [...] deported in October 1933 because he had failed to register as a foreign agent." But I notice that the Foreign Agents Registration Act didn't pass into law until 1938. —Morning star (talk) 22:43, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Ordained Adventist minister?
[edit]The article states Spanknöbel was an ordained Seventh-day Adventist minister, from 1920, and that he came to America as a minister. It cites the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. I have read that article, and it states he had abandoned his faith long before. Further, I have reviewed the archives of the Seventh-day Adventist church. Spanknöbel is listed as a non-ordained pastoral employee of the church in Bavaria in 1916, 1917, 1918 and 1919 year books. That is the last mention of him anywhere in the archives. If he had been ordained by the church in 1920, he would be so listed in the 1920 or 1921 yearbooks (depending how late in the year he was ordained). He is not mentioned at all. Conclusion: from 1920 he was not a minister of the church, let alone an ordained one. It would seem the 2 refs concerned were based on his own claims. The above mentioned JTS article mentions his claim to pastor a church in America, and then discredits it. In view of this, and that official church documentation from the time discredits the claim, these statements should be modified or removed. Ptilinopus (talk) 09:25, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
