What’s up with the “citation needed” tag?

Do whoever put that tag even bother to read references (in any article, not just this one)? It’s right there, near the end of the only live external reference.

Unless newspaper articles are not considered citations. I really think this new Wikipedia practice of attacking articles with “citations needed” is extremely counter-productive and reflect poorly on the lack of diligence of whoever put these tags in.—Gniw (Wing) (talk) 03:47, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
