Simon Edward Minter (born 7 September 1992), better known as Miniminter, is an English YouTuber, streamer and Internet personality.[2] He is a member and co-founder of the British YouTube group the Sidemen. He is also a co-owner of XIX Vodka, Sidemen Clothing, restaurant chain Sides, and cereal brand Best Breakfasts.

Minter's YouTube career started in 2012, primarily focusing on FIFA gaming videos. Over time, he diversified his content, incorporating vlogs, challenges, and collaborations with other YouTubers.[3]

Early life and education

Simon Edward Minter was born on 7 September 1992 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, to British parents.[4] He attended Berkhamsted School, a private boys' school, where he first encountered Olajide "KSI" Olatunji. Although the two initially disliked each other, they later became close friends.[5] During the early stages of KSI's YouTube channel, Minter contributed as a cinematographer and assisted in creating content before starting his own channel.[6][7]

Minter briefly studied criminology at the University of Hull but left his studies to pursue a full-time career in YouTube content creation.[4][8]

Internet career

Minter created his first YouTube channel, Miniminter, in February 2008, though he did not upload his first video until December 2012.[8] Inspired by his friend JJ Olatunji, Minter began creating content while still a university student. Shortly thereafter, he decided to quit university to pursue YouTube full-time.[9]

Minter's channel gained rapid popularity, achieving 100,000 and 1 million subscribers within a year. His early content primarily consisted of FIFA gameplay, vlogs, challenges, and football videos featuring his friends.[10][11]

In September 2013, Simon Minter launched his second YouTube channel, MM7Games.[9] A month later, he along with KSI, Josh Bradley (Zerkaa), Tobi Brown (TBJZL) and Ethan Payne (Behzinga) formed the Rockstar Games Social Club group the Ultimate Sidemen via Grand Theft Auto Online, later simplified to Sidemen.[12] By 2014, the group had expanded to seven members, adding Vikram Barn (Vikkstar123) and Harry Lewis (W2S). The Sidemen are known for their collaborative content, including weekly uploads of challenges, gameplay, and vlogs.[13][14]

In 2016, Minter and the Sidemen organized the Upload influencer event, a gathering that allowed fans to interact with the Sidemen and other web video creators. The second and final Upload event took place in September 2017.[15][16]

Philanthropy

Minter along with the Sidemen also organize an annual charity football match featuring content creators and public figures, raising funds for charitable causes. The event has grown in popularity, drawing large audiences and involving participants like IShowSpeed and MrBeast.[17] The first, held in 2016 at St Mary's Stadium, raised £110,000 for the Saints Foundation. The second, in 2017 at The Valley in London, raised £210,000 for the NSPCC Childline and Charlton Athletic Community Trust.[18] The third, held in 2018, raised £65,747 through the JustGiving platform.[19] And after a four-year hiatus, the event returned in 2022, raising over £1 million.[20][21]

In December 2018, Minter co-founded M7 Education, a non-profit organization, with his brother. The organization focuses on providing students with visual learning experiences through field trips, fully funded by M7 Education, instead of traditional classroom-based methods.[22][23][24]

In October 2019, he donated $10,010 to Team Trees, a project organised by MrBeast and Mark Rober, that plants one tree for every dollar donated.[25]

Personal life

In February 2014, Minter moved into the "Sidemen House" with fellow Sidemen members KSI, Zerkaa, and Vikkstar123.[26] In 2019, they left the second Sidemen House and moved into a London flat with Olatunji, where they lived together until 2022.[27][28]

Minter has been in a relationship with singer and internet personality, Talia Mar since 2017. The pair became engaged in 2022, and married on 3 June 2023.[29][30]
