Requesting exception for Letter to the American People. Maxeto0910 (talk) 19:14, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I'm thinking we might consider removing this from the list at some point. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:12, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support that. The image depicts a well-known person of public interest, and therefore has many potential use cases throughout Wikipedia. Maxeto0910 (talk) 02:57, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support as well. Do we have any other "similar" photos in the list? (clothed, no massive disfigurement, etc.)Naraht (talk) 14:41, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you'll agree it's going to be pretty offensive if it's used in the wrong place (probably how it ended up here in the first place). Anyway, for reference it was added in 2020 by Malcolmxl5, so let's casually float the idea their way. -- zzuuzz (talk) 16:02, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My memory of the summer of 2020 is pretty hazy but it’s likely it was being spammed across the encyclopedia by someone who thought it funny to do that. Perhaps they’ve gone away. Let’s remove it from the list and see. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 16:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
zzuuzz I think the difference with that one is that while there are a certain number of articles that Osama's face would be offensive on, for most of the images here, there are a certain number of articles that it would *not* be offensive on. For example, to pick a random image here, a photo of an inserted butt plug might be viewed as offensive on the page for M&T Bank Stadium (The stadium that the Baltimore Ravens play at) where Osama's face wouldn't be viewed in the same way. I don't know if there is anyway to *reverse* the Mediawiki tech to only ban it from a specific number of articles. In any case, I think we are on the same wavelength.Naraht (talk) 17:30, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please exempt this img for profanity, where it is a good example of an obscene hand gesture. Thanks, Charlotte (Queen of Heartstalk) 21:43, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. @Queen of Hearts: -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:25, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please add the image to the bad image list as it has been repeatedly used for Distruptive Editing by Socks of AveragePigs (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) if it is possible to do that Thanks. Untamed1910 (talk) 16:57, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I *really* don't expect this to be possible for the *Hundreds* of exceptions that would need to be made, with everything from lists of medalists in individual olympic sports where a citizen of Germany won a medal in the 1936 olympics to lists of Chancellors of Germany to all infoboxes of Battles that included the 3R. See https://linkcount.toolforge.org/?project=en.wiki.x.io&page=File%3AFlag+of+Germany+%281935%E2%80%931945%29.svg , that says used in 13,000 pages.Naraht (talk) 17:23, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This answer certainly makes sense. I'm unaware of any technical limit to the number of exceptions, but if there are too many it makes page maintenance more difficult. Additionally, if the image is already in use on hundreds of pages, there's a very good chance that lots of pages which should be created, but haven't been yet, will need to be added as well.  Not done, as above. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:16, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Untamed1910:A more careful check shows that this image is used on 119 template-namespace pages (one of these being a stub tag), including 14 subpages (documentation pages and usecase pages which transclude the templates and sansboxes with hardcoded copies of them). Even if listing the templates is good enough for the transcluding articles (I doubt it), needing to have them listed would be a maintenance nightmare. What may work would be to ask for an edit filter, which would cover anonymous and new users adding new direct uses of these images (if you try this, mention explicitly that your request here was declined due to the image being used legitimately on too many pages, since otherwise they will send you right back here as the more efficient way to do it), but I don't know if they will do it. Animal lover |666| 15:41, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Animal lover 666 It doesn't appear that there are any template exceptions in the Bad image list (three template talk, though). While I don't think this is the right tool, I'm not sure there is a great tool. :(Naraht (talk) 17:12, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You'd need exemptions for both the template and its transclusions, which as you point out are both unmanageable anyway. I know of one example in the list which is File:Origin-of-the-World.jpg (examples: exempted / not exempted). I can say that we have had some 'adjacent' edit filters, but perusing the SPI for the first time I wonder if a dose of protection might be a better solution. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:28, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
