Badge image

[edit]

A PNG file of the badge of the Wolf's Head Society was uploaded after an extensive search.

While it is a local society, existing only at Yale, the Wolf's Head Society is notable having citations from numerous secondary sources; it has a 140+ year tenure and owns property. These three factors are indicative of notability as Wikipedia's general rules are applied, and from these, according to consensus of the Fraternity and Sorority Project and other admins who have helped us clarify our specific application of those rules.

The Fraternity and Sorority Project standard template includes space -- a parameter in our standard infobox -- to upload images of pins or badges that are discussed in the body text. Also, where a crest, logo or coat-of-arms is not available, our fall-back standard is to use a low-resolution image of the member pin as the identifying crest in the infobox, also allowed under standard interpretation of copyright carve-outs. We have done so for that group's article, using this pin image. Jax MN (talk) 09:02, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I note that previously, the main Wolf's Head (Society) article showed a small JPG of their building as the identifying graphic in the infobox. Per our standard stylesheet we always look first for a crest or coat-of-arms. Finding none, we then (at article creation) looked for an image of their pin, but when that was unavailable (at the time), we opted for the third-best option, an image of the group's building. It was only subsequent to this that we found the image of their pin, which we copied, reduced in size, cropped and color-corrected, for use in the infobox. Should there be remaining concerns over exhibit of this small JPG of the pin for the "member badge" parameter in the infobox, I will adjust the licensing from this being "the subject of discussion in the article" to be listed as "the primary image for identification of the group, to be used in the infobox" -- this latter usage offers more flexibility to withstand concerns over copyright.
