Summary

Wrest House, Bedfordshire, in 1708, as re-built by w:Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Kent (1671-1740). The manor of Wrest had been a seat of the Grey family since 1284. The 1st Duke of Kent's new house was demolished circa 1834 and rebuilt 1834–39 in the surviving French form by his eventual heir (through various female lines) Thomas de Grey, 2nd Earl de Grey (1781–1859) (born as "Thomas Robinson", brother of Prime Minister Frederick Robinson, 1st Viscount Goderich), to his own design. Arms of Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Kent at bottom (Grey of Ruthin). Engraving by Pieter Van der Aa, published in Lieden in about 1708.
