It serves to identify the station in question visually in a way prose cannot. It is widely distributed by the copyright holder for that purpose. As the value of the image is in the particular unique appearance which is copyrighted, no free alternative can be made. It is low resolution. The image is only being used for informational purposes.

This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of low-resolution screenshots for identification of and critical commentary on the television program and its contents on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under the Copyright law of the United States.
