This map image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.
It is recommended to name the SVG file “Victoria City in Hong Kong Island (1907).svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
Summary
DescriptionVictoria City in Hong Kong Island (1907).png
English: Victoria City was the first settlement of Hong Kong founded by the British, who started colonising Hong Kong Island in 1841. The city itself eventually expands into the current day Central and Western District and Wan Chai district, and the usage of the term slowly faded. The present area of this settlement is the heart of Urban Hong Kong, being the downtown and the central business district of the Special Administrative Region.
The city’s boundaries weren’t well defined but there are City Boundary Markers erected by the British colonial administration in 1903. Its purpose remains unknown until the present day, but people suggests it may indicate a turning point for the direction of the city’s boundary. Yet more stones are to be found (3 were found in 2021).
Note that the gray lines on the top are Hong Kong Island’s original coastlines (prior to the reclamations up to 1907).
Will make a follow up map about the subdivisions of Victoria City (Colloquially known as the four “wans” and nine “yeuks” - 四環九約). Stay tuned. :)
