English: Base Layout Map, USAF Kashiwa Communications Station （late 1960s): In 1963, the DCA Mid-Range Plan had its primary objective the consolidation of the tri-service common user communications environment into one system. PACOM areas selected initially for consolidation were Guam (Navy), the Philippines (Air Force), Taiwan (Army), Okinawa (Army), and Japan (Air Force). Therefore, the Kashiwa site was transferred from the U.S. Army Signal Command, Japan to the AFCS/FECR 1956th Communications Group, and the facilities and area were placed under the control of the PACAF's 6100th Support Wing (aka Kanto Base Command) in July 1964. Afterward, due to electromagnetic interference problems, the local farmers who lived on the antenna field were evicted. Meanwhile the advent of new communications media, such as satellite relay, transpacific undersea cable, and AUTODIN reduces reliance on long-haul HF radio for applications.
