DescriptionTranslation with and without nonsense mutation.jpg
English: On the left is a diagram of normal protein translation, protein elongation proceeding as expected. In the center is the product of a nonsense mutation, causing the UUG codon to be changed to the UAG stop codon which results in the recruitment of a release factor, terminating protein translation. On the right is a diagram of tRNA suppression where the UUG codon is mutated to a UAG stop codon, and the tRNA is also mutated to recognize the UAG codon but is coded for a peptide, which allows translation to continue.
