Summary
DescriptionThe Black Rats arrive in Catterick MOD 45148986.jpg |
English: More than 60 years of history were marked when a special Homecoming Parade was held for the 4th Mechanized Brigade, better known as “The Black Rats”, at Bourlon Barracks, Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire.
The Brigade has had a long relationship and history with Germany being based in Osnabruck garrison since the end of the Second World War. However, with the closure of the Garrison the “Black Rats” have moved to the United Kingdom and their new base at Catterick Garrison. To mark the occasion, representatives from each of the units, over three hundred in total, who deployed to Iraq with the Brigade held a “Welcome to Catterick Garrison” parade to acknowledge both the recent return from Iraq and their move from Germany to North Yorkshire. The inspecting officer of the parade was the General Officer Commanding the 1st (United Kingdom) Armoured Division, Major General Graham Binns CBE DSO MC and the Massed Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards accompanied the parade.
