Deutsch: Projektskizze Erste Lösung für die Stössensee- und Freybrücke von Karl Bernhard, Ansicht von Süden mit Pichelswerder links und Stössensee rechts.
Realisierte Führung der Heerstraße mit Knick auf einer Karte um 1910. Die untere schwarze Linie zeigt die Entwurfslinie (nach Karl Bernhard) bei schnurgerader Weiterführung ohne Knick.

Das größte technische und finanzielle Problem beim Bau der Berliner Heerstraße zwischen 1903 und 1911 lag in der Überbrückung der Havelniederung. Bei der ursprünglich vorgesehenen (nichtrealisierten) schnurgeraden Weiterführung der Straße, die eine Überbrückung auch der Scharfen Lanke erfordert hätte, ergaben sich folgende Varianten:

Wegen der hohen Kosten und der zu starken Beeinträchtigung des Landschaftsbilds bei den vorstehenden Lösungen wurde die Heerstraße am Scholzplatz geknickt, womit die Scharfe Lanke nicht mehr berührt wurde. Realisiert wurden die Freybrücke über die Havel und die Stößenseebrücke über den See, wobei im Stößensee ein Damm aufgeschüttet wurde. Die Gesamtkosten für diese realisierte Lösung lagen bei 2,54 Millionen Mark.
