Summary

Description
English: Detail of a map of Southern Sumatra, then part of Dutch East Indies, from the De Grote Winkler Prins Encyclopedia published in 1910. The Residency of Bengkoelen (in pink) corresponds to the territory of British Bencoolen (1685-1825), ceded to the Netherlands by the Anglo-Dutch treaty of 1824. The two former British outposts of Natal and Tapanuli (not shown on the map), located far away on the coast of northwestern Sumatra, were not part of the Residency.
