Text Appearing Before Image: lood of a com-munity. Excess service is a waste and insufficient serv-ice is a detriment. It is the part of good operatingpolicy to eliminate non-productive lines, but when thecurtailment of service is necessary on other routes be-cause the patrons are unwilling to pay for what theyare getting, the result must be unfortunate for all con-cerned. The people who must put up with inferior serv-ice will, of course, be subjected to inconvenience, andbusiness interests are bound to suffer in every districtwhere trade is driven away because the facilities fortransportation are allowed to deteriorate. We hope thepeople of Des Moines will not be too long in finding thisto be true. Their better judgment must prevail afteran experience with inadequate facilities, and if a newand more equitable deal between the company and thecity is the outcome the decision of Judge Wade willhave proved beneficial to all parties in this unfortunatedispute. We look for a speedy readjustment of the farecontroversy. Text Appearing After Image: March 1, 1919 Electric Railway Journal 397 Hints for the Freight Operator* By A. B.
