Text Appearing Before Image: ruce and tamarac between them. On Fores. Lake a mile or moreof shore is well covered with poplar, tamarac, spruce, &c. The clay banks of WabigoonRiver support a good growth of poplar in many places, but the rocky region between OlayLake and the English River shows little timber except of a scrubby nature. East of theBlackwater River there are several square mdes of good poplar and spruce, but farthereast the country is bare over large areas. Little timber of importance is found alongEnglish River except on the clay area near the mouth of Mattawa River. The banks ofthe stream are well wooded, mostly with poplar, for seven or eight miles. In the LacSeul and Wabuskong Like districts the country is fairly well wooded but largely withscrubby jack pine or stunted spruce. On the flats it is better ; these ofen having agrowth of good poplar, white birch, &c. viood spruce and tamarac are fjuud in theswamps along the Winnipeg River and the lower parts of the English River, but these are Text Appearing After Image: 19 p.
