Summary
[edit]MIR.VOM.STAB.WWI-era postcard art.Wittig collection.item 49.obverse.scan.jpg. Pen & ink drawing on paper, drawn on an Austro-Hungarian (K.u.K.) Feldpostkarte blank: the paper is not really of card-stock thickness, yellowed with age, original colour was probably white or off-white. Artist-signed bottom right. Back has addressing information for both recipient & sender (feldpost information: Raman? Hanooka? M.G.K. 3/99 288) & seems to be by the same hand as the drawing on the front. The name-reading is uncertain, but appears to be as follows: on back "Raman? Hanooka?"; front is signed as "Raman?", possibly with a preceeding "H" intertwined with the "R" as a monogram. Possibly "Raman" is the artist's surname, but this is unclear; I have insufficient information about Austro-Hungarian name-order conventions, especially in the military, & I do not know if the artist or his unit were "Hungarian" specifically. K.u.K. Inft. Rgmt. Nr. 99. Masch. Gew. Komp. 3. Postally used in 1917(?); postage marking top-right on the back of the postcard; dated as "15.VIII.17(?)". with the "7" being slightly unclear/uncertain . Created in 1917(?). More information would be appreciated; feel free to transcribe/translate. Wittig collection, item 49; private collection, fam. Wittig et cie.
Created in 1917; therefore obviously pre-1923; uploaded here to avoid Commons' "dual jurisdiction" PD rule.
Please do not transfer to WMC unless you can confirm the item's PD-status as per Commons' requirements.
