Hindenburg_Line_Bellenglise_AWM_E03367.jpeg (450 × 318 pixels, file size: 58 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Description

AWM caption : "The dense black wire composing the entanglements which protected the Hindenburg Line at Bellenglise, through which, during a rain storm, the 46th and 14th Battalions advanced on the night of 18/19 September 1918. The wire was so thickly and extensively used that the artillery fire had made very little effect on it. The capture of this position coordinated with that of the remainder of the objectives, and by nightfall on 19 September, the Outer Hindenburg Defences were in British hands.

Identified is Private J. Martin, A Company (extreme left)."
