Summary
[edit]Description | This image illustrates the badge of a Regiment or other unit of the British Army. Such insignia are asserted by the Ministry of Defence to be subject to Crown Copyright and other intellectual property rights, such as trademarks. It is considered that the use of this image in Wikipedia qualifies as fair use because:
1. The image illustrates, and is representative of, the badge in question. 2. The badge uniquely identifies the Regiment or unit. (In the British Army, unlike most other armies, each Regiment has its own individual badge.) 3. The information contained in this image cannot adequately be conveyed by other means. 4. The image is of low resolution and is only useful for illustrative purposes. 5. A free image is not available because it is the design itself that is subject to copyright. 6. The badge is only of historical interest, since the Regiment or unit no longer exists owing to disbandment or amalgamation with other units. |

Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | The entire logo is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image.
The logo is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution. The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing the Hertfordshire Regiment, a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. Because it is a logo there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary. |
